Cabin in the Woods

Today was a good day. I was able to warm up and do a few gestures, but I wanted to try my hand at drawing on the screen again.

So I decided to study one of my very, very old courses sitting in the library. Just a refresher with a new tool for practice. That being said, I didn’t get to do a lot of drawing, but I got the time in, and I can feel my muscle memory starting to come back.

Now I just have to keep the streak going! Sundays are going to be the only days off from now on. 🙂

Commitments and Regrets

Wow, trying to get back into the swing of things after taking so much time to focus on one big project has backfired. Well, taking the time off backfired, not the big project.

I just couldn’t get into the zone today, no matter what I tried. I botched several digital sketches, then couldn’t loosen up my shoulder to work with my lead clutch on newsprint. I feel like a kid holding a crayon right now.

But…it’s safe to say – I learned my lesson, and I won’t be slipping up again.

The only image I’m uploading today is from one sheet of my gesture studies. Everything else was…embarrassing.

Reverie, Affinity, and other cool words.

“Iron rusts from disuse; stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.”

— Leonardo da Vinci

This is a sentiment that has echoed through history. Rust…rust decays iron when it isn’t used regularly, such it is with a skill that you neglect. If you don’t use it…you lose it.

Well, I’m glad I’ve been grinding away the rust on some of my old skills. What’s something you’ve let go of? What “vigors of the mind” could use a bit more ACTION?

Get to it.

Make Some Magic

How much magic can you bring into your life? A better question – how much magic could you make for others if you really tried?

The beauty of it is that it doesn’t take much effort. Just expect magic in everything and it might show up. It definitely won’t show if you don’t expect it, though.

That spark is only there if you want it to be, kind-of like the Muse. If you don’t show up for the magic, the magic won’t show up for you or anyone you touch.

So make some magic today by looking for those magical opportunities.

What You Become

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”

Zig Ziglar

I’ve been working hard on my goals over the past month, and I’ve realized that my aims have adjusted as I’ve adapted. How about you? Have you noticed any changes in who you’re starting to become?

I’m more flexible. I’m more focused when I have the opportunity to focus. I’m more connected with my family. I like who I’m becoming.
