Ever wanted to dedicate yourself to improving as much as possible? I have. So I set out on a year of personal development to see just how much I could grow.

This is my journey.

Episode 03 of the 2018 Experiment

In this episode, I cover my entire morning routine, what I do and why I decided to do it that way, and I discuss (briefly) some of my plans for February.

Last Week’s Plan:

  • Follow “Eliminate” phase from 4HWW. (Semi-Successful)
  • Read the Lean Startup by Eric Ries (About 50%)
  • Start learning Calligraphy and Hand Lettering (Well under-way)

Other awesome things that happened:

  • I cut down on time doing direct sales and increased time at the tattoo shop – which increased the frequency of my drawing habit.
  • I realized that I don’t consume books as quickly as I used to, and I’m OK with that because I’m taking actions instead of just consuming information.

Next Week’s Plan:

  • Finish The Lean Startup
  • Start developing an MVP for DrawCore.com
  • Test automation in different areas of my life.

If I feed my brain good things, I produce good things! I’d also love to find a good accountability partner sometime soon. 🙂

Episode 02 of the 2018 Experiment

After a rough start to 2018, things are starting to improve in my life. With enough discipline and a clear vision, anything is possible.

Last Week’s Plan:

  • Nail my routines. (Accomplished)
  • Finish setting quarterly goals. (Accomplished)
  • Finish reading the 4 Hour Work Week (Accomplished)
  • Find an accountability partner. (Didn’t accomplish, but I have people in my life who do a great job at keeping me on track.)

Other awesome things that happened:

  • I learned from my fellow tattoo artists.
  • I went above and beyond on my routines.
  • My wife and I adopted a new dog!

Next Week’s Plan:

  • Follow “Eliminate” phase from 4HWW.
  • Read the Lean Startup by Eric Ries (http://amzn.to/2BhLcUb)
  • Start learning Calligraphy and Hand Lettering

It’s great to feel like I’m back on track. I don’t know what else there is to say. I’m in a good place right now, and I’m still trying to get better. I can’t begin to describe how grateful I am to have the people I have in my life. Thank you all.

Episode 01 of the 2018 Experiment

2018 is off to a bumpy start. I mentioned in December that I’d be doing a year of documented personal development with some “floating head” videos. The first one is up a week late due to some extreme circumstances.

Let me break it down a bit:

The Plan for the first (2) week(s) of 2018

  • Read the 4 Hour Work Week and apply the principles.
  • Get all of my goals written out.
  • Make sure my routines are solid and consistent.

What Actually Happened

  • My wife and I had a miscarriage.
  • Our pipes froze and burst in our home.
  • I scrambled to hold everything together and didn’t get to focus on the things I had planned on.
  • My routines fell apart and I didn’t read anything.

The Plan for Week #3 of 2018

  • Finish reading the 4 Hour Work Week. Take notes and schedule activities based on the book’s principles.
  • Get back on track with my routines. (Doing pretty well on this, finally).
  • Finish my Quarterly Review process and have clearly defined goals for the next 90 days. (Only one item left on my review).
  • Find an accountability partner that will help keep me focused. Someone I can really grow WITH through 2018.

Episode 00 of the 2018 Experiment

In this episode I discuss my benchmark, where I’m starting out on the experiment.

Where I’m at:

  • An amazing family.
  • A comfortable home.
  • A baby on the way.
  • Around $400 in my bank account.
  • $50 in my investment account.
  • WAY too much credit card debt.

The Plan:

  • Spend January working on my routines.
  • Increase my income.
  • Dramatically reduce debt.
  • Read the 4 Hour Work Week, take notes and take action.
